Origin: “City God Reception” refers to the theophany of the city god originally taking command of Kinmen City during the reign of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing dynasty. After the transference of Long Chen, commander-in-chief, from Kinmen City to Houpu (present-day Kincheng Town),the people of Houpu hold the City God Security Patrol and Pilgrimage on April 12 of the lunar calendar, the date of transference, to show their respect for the city god and pray for good weather, safety, and bumper harvest. The patrol and pilgrimage have been practiced for over 300 years. Every year the City God Pilgrimage and the parade run for four miles slowly across streets and roads in Houpu. In addition to different parade formations, deity palanquins, and colorful banners, there are also countless believers, heralding drums and gongs, and firework cracking. The aggressive pilgrimage is festive and even attacks visitors from all over the world to this biggest folk festivity of Kinmen.
